Grog

Grog
8 x 8

Working on this one, first go around. Will be adding color later. The cup is made from a longhorn antler. The bottom of it has a wood base and the handle is peeled back portion of the horn. This is the way they made them on the range/ranch 1800's in Texas. I'm sure this isn't the first time horn's were used as cups.

It's been a while since I've painted Galveston surfers. Here's one pulling in on a wave that fizzled just off of the 51st jetty if I remember. Late in the evening when the sun was pulling in behind causing the the surfers to be back lit. I like this type of light and it's interesting to attempt pulling the effect off in a painting as it's always different.

Ship Series 2

Ship Series #2

11x14
Oil on Linen

Getting back to the Ship Series/Sailboat series, I haven't really decided on titles yet. This painting is still in progress. In total I'll have 10 different paintings in this Sailboat Series available for purchase. They will be labeled as part of a series of 10. These paintings are all painted on Belgian high quality linen, and oil primed that I stretch myself  I'm guessing possibly by the end of April I'll have them all finished. They will only be available for purchase through me directly and not on eBay.

I will be offering a discount if you purchase one of these paintings. It will be 10% off on any painting I have on eBay, up to 3 paintings. Each 11x14 painting will cost $300 + shipping and handling. If you'd like to be notified when they are ready to purchase sign up on my blog on the right and also my monthly newsletter. Until then, back to work on the boats.

Davis and Co Fine Art Gallery

Sea Bound
24 x 24
Oil on Canvas

The painting "Sea Bound" is off to the Davis and Co Fine Art Gallery for the Rites of Spring Show accompanied by two security guards, one named Jeff and the other Palo. The painting is secured in a sealed crate with a secret pass code for the... just kidding, lol. But seriously it's off to the Gallery.

This painting was juried into the top 100 paintings along with another painting called "Early Morning Surf" for the Artist Visual Magazine. Out of the top 25  of those paintings "Sea Bound" made it in and will be on display at the Davis and Co Fine Art Gallery in Spring, Texas for the Rites of Spring Show. If your around, stop by and take a look at it. Oil paintings, in person, to me are always more interesting to look at. Photo's rarely do them justice.

The Rites of Spring show runs from April, 4th to May 2nd

Another in the Outer Reef line up. Like how this came out, and trying a different way of painting. This is all free hand no sketching required. many of my paintings are done freehand. I'm getting to where painting has become drawing to me. Lots of fun, now go get wet!

Before the Battle. Came up with the title from a Herbie Mann song. I was going to call it the Battle of Santa Cruz since it's in a frame model from the frame makers King of Frame plus there not in battle yet. Maybe next one I'll make a battle scene.

Texas, the land of Cattle, Trees, Grass and a long, long beach to boat. There has to be a pun in there somewhere. The bull out and about in the fields.

Back on the boat. A little more work on it and still more to go. I plan on letting it sit a bit and come back to it again. Comparing this step with the last is quite a bit different and I might take some of what was in the first effort and put back into it. Moving on to some more in the coming week.

Out in left field, literally. Well on the left side of the road depending on which way you drive. I just have this feeling this bull is just edging me on, daring me to step within range, every so slightly nudging me to jump the fence, and playing it oh so nonchalantly. Ha! Your lucky day isn't today sport. Maybe next time will meet up and you can try again.

Had some fun painting this one, came together quite nice. Another scene of some cows in the wintering fields in Alvin, Texas. I like capturing the position of cows and a subtle shade here and there makes all the difference.

Nice view of Galveston's marsh and view of the bay. This is near San Luis Pass on the West side of Galveston Island looking towards what is called Follet's Island. Good fishing on this side but definitely sharks around in these waters. The bad thing is it's shallow on this side but with shifting sand bottoms do to the current flowing in and out of the pass.

Ship Series

Ship Series
Oil on Stretched
Belgian Linen
11 x 14

Just started on the ship series. This is the first one although not finished still on step one. I'll be doing a bunch on some Belgian Linen I got it and stretching it myself, lots of fun. I'll be taking each painting in stages until I feel like there finished to my liking. I mostly paint alla prima, which basically means a finished painting in one sitting  On these I will possibly be making three or four rounds on them for each painting which means each one has to dry some before I can get back into it. In the mean time I will be doing my small paintings also and posting those on eBay.
