Some parts of Galveston Island have some pretty big beaches, lots of sand and this part, which is the south end has probably the second biggest area. The North side I think has plenty more but this spot has the dunes.

On a nice windy day or somewhat windy day you can sail those sand buggies with sails. My dad built one a long time ago and I can remember riding it around in the sand, lot of fun. I don't think we rode on this are of the island we mostly rode on the North side. On a side note my dad was friends of one of the guys who first built one of the first sandrails in Texas and quite possibly the first sandrail in Texas. He helped him build his and then built his own and of course added a VW engine to it. On his he added the roll bar and yes it climbed the dunes in Matagorda lot of fun that was but I was to little to drive it at the time, only ride. So this painting goes out to all who enjoy the beach days and playing in the sand. The Flats, 8x8 Oil on Panel, Galveston Island, Texas near San Luis Pass.
