This particular painting has had a nice history to it. It's actually traveled quite a bit and went to an Art Show in California at the Randy Higbee 6x6 Show in Costa Messa. I will tell you a little about the painting and some history. The boat in the background used to be a liveaboard and for a longtime it was anchored in what's called Offats Bayou. It's more like a big Bay with marina and housing boat launch area etc. Well it had taking a beating from a recent hurricane that hit Galveston. When I visited after the storm this boat was actually on top of dry land about 3-4miles further down the Bay. Years later it popped up. It was interesting to find it here in this dry dock that repairs boats. When I visit the Gallery here in Galveston I usually go down the Harborside Drive and this scene is located right between two big buildings and if you don't look for it while driving you'll pass right by it. I'm always on the lookout for something to paint and this caught my eye immediately. It's been on my wall for a while now and I thought it's time to put it up for sale in hopes of becoming someones little jem on there wall.

Update on Paintings etc. and What!!!!

Just a quick update since my blog is not filling with more paintings every day your probably wandering what's up. I've been working on a group of six seascapes last week which took some time away. The six will be at a new Gallery in Dallas, TX called the Dutch Gallery and will be available sometime in May. I'll keep you posted along with some pics of them soon.

Most of my time has been devoted to 3 24x24 seascape paintings which I entered into the Galveston Art League Juried Show so hope they do good.

Now for the not so good news. After having a dead battery, forgetting to add some hanging wire, here is the bad, my camera is now dead. Yes, it's dead as a door nail dead. I mean not even a peep. All is not lost. Hopefully I have what I needed on my memory card. Plus, just bought another camera so waiting for it to be shipped. That means I'm not posting anything until it comes in, ugghhh. Hope you had a better weekend.

Cruising for Fish

Cruising for Fish

Pelicans are the cruisers of the Gulf around here. Very eficient at conserving energy but the Albatross takes top honors for that, at least I think they are the farthest flying most efficient bird around. They like to glide between the waves really low which is cool to see.

Rainy Day

Rainy Day
Glaveston, Texas
8 x 8
Oil on Panel
Randall Cogburn

Sold

Rainy days can be fun to be out in, especially if you don't mind being wet. I've done some kayaking on days like this and even in some drenchers which was really fun. My hat I wear was soaked. The brim looked like the lip of one of those giant clam shells. Every once in a while, I'd get a good mouth fool of rain water. It's interesting to see how the colors and values change on a rainy day. Ahhh, the salty sea got to love it.

Toes on the Nose

Toes on the Nose
Series #1
8 x 8
Oil on Panel
Randall Cogburn

Sold

Oh, wohhh. Toes on the nose. I've never ridden on the nose before on a surfboard, although I have a skateboard and it didn't end up well lol. Come to think of it, have you ever ridden in a VW Bus? It's really awesome since your positioned in front of the front axle and it feels like your stuck out there right on the hood of the Bus, well you actually are lol.

In this series I'm featuring a Longboarder named Mary Osbourne, an excellent surfer, taken by Jon Steele a really awesome photographer who also happens to be a surfer, skater, and artist. Hope you enjoy the series it will be a blast and I'll fit in more surf and scenes from Galveston as time permits. If your curious it takes about 2-3hrs to paint these 8x8's that includes prep work, painting, photographing  and uploading and don't forget cleaning. Oh gosh I hate cleaning my brushes but it must be done lol.

Also this month I'm working on some bigger paintings of Galvestons Surf that I hope to put in the Galveston Art League Gallery this month.

If your planning on being in Galveston and like to paint I'm having a workshop in April on Saturday's of the 20th and 27th. We will be on the beach at Galveston State Park and on the 27th still not sure where will be but it will be great. Originally I had planned on going to the beach near the pleasure pier but I'm afraid the traffic and mainly parking for all will be a hassle. We might go further down the beach if you have any ideas I'm open to them.

If you haven't already done so subscribe to
my blog so you can get any new posts I make in your email.

How Deep is the Ocean

How Deep is the Ocean
Galveston, Texas
8 x 8
Oil on Panel
Randall Cogburn

Sold

Well, around here Galveston is pretty shallow compared to like, Chorpus Christi. It's amazing how the water reflects color. Every angle seems like another value, another hue and chroma changes if the water is tilted one way or another. Lots of fun to paint. So how deep is it around here. On average it gets about 5-7feet to the normal surf zone then can drop off to 10-11feet and more after that which you see the bluer water.
