Big surf early in the morning. The sun rises a little off shore to the left of the beach looking out into the ocean here at Galveston Island, Texas which makes for some interesting colors on the waves. While painting this painting I thought of the impressionists like Monet and Renoir. This is why I paint, a sort of connection to those painters in the past who I admire. I once visited the Impressionist exhibit held at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and was thrilled to see up close all the brush strokes from the various painters of that time. It would be truly amazing to be able to go back in time and live and paint with these famous painters and experience the day to day things.
