Flamenco Dancing Oil Painting

Something new and something different a first in a series of larger paintings I will have up for sale. For a while I have been interested in Flamenco and it's origins. My dad was a big fan of it when he was young and learned to play some on a classical guitar which I still have and play. He was lucky enough to see Carlos Montoya in concert while he was stationed in Florida. So here is my tribute to the art of Flamenco and I'll have many more to come. This particular painting was accepted in Juried Competitions in Galveston and Texas City although didn't win anything I think it deserves a Best of Show on my blog. This is a 16x20 painting and signed lower left. I do have prints that can be purchased and will post them on ebay. The print will be stretched canvas on stretchers ready to be framed. The original is unframmed although I do have a frame for it it is custom built and weighs quite a bit so you might want to use a frame you have. It's a standard size so 16x20 frames should be easy to find. I suggest one company that sales some really nice frames called  King of Frame.

The Plein Air Meetup....

Wish you were here today to paint it was one heck of day, can't ask for better weather except for maybe a little cooler. Foggy as usual in the morning by the time I arrived the fog started lifting fast. Not a lot of people showed up and very surprised only two hardcore plein air painters showed up to paint you can see them in the photo's below. One just got back from a trip to France beaming with a grin of all the sights that were seen including Monet's Garden and where Van Gogh was hospitalized at Saint-Remy.  I had mentioned of having a Plein Air competition still undecided if your interested let me know by email my contact info is to the right on the sidebar.

So here is a quick run through of the photo's I took with a not so great camera.

Coming into the Park

Lots of Trees at the park, this one  was just nearby the car. Quite a few hummingbirds buzzing around this oak tree.

More trees, they have a lot of oak trees out here.

Those tree trunks look interesting.

Off to painting. What is this photo of? :)

Actually the second painting of the day, forgot to take  a photo of the first one.

A deck leading out to a low lying area.

This is Carey doing some Pastel work of an oak tree.

Billie hard at work, doesn't seem to be affected by jet lag coming over from France.

The group painting. This was a nice place to get in the shade and allowed us to see our colors easier.

Shoul have done this scene, looks awesome.

Last painting of the day and we were out of there.
Thanks Billie and Carey for coming out it was a joy.

**Plein Air Meetup** Updated 5/4 Friday

I'm having it on May 5th the first Saturday of the month at Brazos Bend State Park and I'm inviting anyone who likes to paint or draw to come out and have fun. It's free minus the $7 park entrance fee which is good for a day. Those of you who came out last year I know had a lot of fun and hope to see you there this year. The park offers a ton of scenery from open prairie, to lakes, to tons of trees and wildlife, and even a secret white water rapids I know of. The park opens at 7am and I hope it turns out to be a nice day with no rain. Directions to the Park are here we will meet at the big parking lot to the left after you pass the check in station. Here is a map where the parking lot is located.

Here's a link to the first Brazos Bend Plein Air meetup which was held in February 2011. If you like to get outdoors and paint/draw from life come on out and enjoy it with fellow minded artists.

I plan on setting up a Plein Air Juried Competition and Meetup sometime in the following months ahead. There will be prizes given out so it will be worth it. There might be more than one including locations in Galveston and Houston on different dates. I will have more up to date info later on and will talk about it at the Brazos Bend Plein Air meetup on May 5th including a sign up sheet for those interested. It will be lot's of fun guaranteed. More info will be updated here so keep a tab on it.

You never know what is going to happen when you go out and paint plein air. Here is one of the artist's at last years meetup, Tim Schneider, who's photo was taken by Dan Thibodeaux a local Photographer of the Houston Area, his photo was printed in the January 2012 issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife.
